Activision recently announced that they will be taking Warzone offline for 12 days as the release date for its long-awaited sequel Call of Duty (COD): Warzone 2.0 will be releasing soon, and the company wants to keep the sequel a stable experience for all players.
Patch notes from the most recent Call of Duty blog describe how the company will handle the game’s major release during holidays. The company revealed that the cosmetics purchased by people in Warzone will not transfer to the new game.
According to the blog, the Call of Duty: Warzone servers will go temporarily offline on November 16 at 8 a.m. PT, and the game’s creator, Raven Software, anticipates that service will resume on November 28 at 10 a.m. PT.
As part of Modern Warfare 2 Season 1, Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 will debut on November 16 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Raven Software’s developers will be focused on ensuring the new Warzone 2.0 free-to-play ecosystem is operating effectively during downtime.
People can play the 2.0 release for free while the 2.0 Warzone is unavailable, and the old Warzone will subsequently return as Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. Additionally, a few rewards will be given as a gift to Warzone players to use in Warzone 2.0.
However, the cosmetics purchased by people will not transfer to Warzone 2.0 as it is tied to COD Modern Warfare II, and the Caldera relaunch for Warzone is still considered a separate game. Progression on Warzone 2.0 is also tied to Modern Warfare II.
The official blog post quoted, “This is due to a combination of feedback from the community, technical limitations, and a need to simplify the next and newest Warzone to create a seamless player experience moving forward.”
The relaunch of the Warzone as Caldera will disable the store inside the game, and the XP boss tokens are also not transferable to other games, but there is a silver lining as the players who have purchased COD points will be able to transfer them in the new game to buy cosmetics.
