In the wake of rising incidents linked to online gaming, the Kozhikode’s cyber cell has urged parents to make a note of what their children stream online and to keep them aware of how they must not misuse their smartphones for paid online games.
Apart from this, the police also warned parents to keep a tab on their children while they’re attending online classes especially with fears of them indulging in online gaming.

In a recent complaint, the cyber cell officials reported that a woman lost Rs 1 lakh from her bank account. This was after two of her high school children played an online game through her phone. She then reported the incident and filed a complaint with the cyber cell and the officials brought forth the information that at least three kids, including her relative’s son played the game and lost money. The transaction from the parents’ account happened at different intervals. Initially, the complainant thought that it was some fraudulent banking trickster. Nonetheless, it was convenient cyber theft.

Similarly, a woman from Malappuram district’s Areekode lost Rs 1 lakh as her son used the money to play an online game. This incident came to light when the woman approached the cyber cell with her complaint and they reached the core of the issue only to find out that her son was lured into a clickbait.
Taking cues from the recent happenings, a cyber cell official also mentioned that children have been clicking on spam links that claim to offer costly gadgets at a cheaper price. He further mentioned that parents must know the whereabouts of what their children are doing online and ensure the security of their smartphones by restricting them from using important social media and banking platforms.
