Luv Gupta, a 32-year-old software engineer from Kanpur, has been arrested for developing and maintaining a software that conducted draws of illegal online lotteries in the city every 15 minutes. Luv was working for a software giant in Bengaluru remotely while developing the illegal lottery software on the side and allegedly sold the software to Gopal Shetty for INR 16,00,000 after acquiring the domain from GoDaddy.com.
Earlier during the first week of August, the property cell of the Mumbai crime branch raided the illegal lottery center in Mazgaon after numerous reports and arrested 10 people working there. The main owners of the scam lottery included Nilesh Mankar, Prashant Jadhav, Nandesh Sabunkar, Gopal Shetty and Dinesh Shetty. “The lottery, Ping Skill Game, was run online, without permission. A software was developed where the draws came out every 15 minutes and winners were announced,” an officer of the raid party said. According to the police Gopal Shetty created a number of vendors of such illegal online lotteries who operated in Mumbai and Maharashtra.
After further investigations the police found out a hefty amount of money was transferred to Luv Gupta regularly. It turned out that Luv has also been maintaining the software on the side with regular updates and was being paid for it.
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (SFT), with the help of Mumbai police, arrested Luv, who resided in one of the apartments of Gulmohar Greens, Bittur road in Kanpur. Upon investigating Luv, the police found out that he had completed his B.Tech in computer science and engineering and was an expert coder. He was brought to the Bithur police station on September 21 and the court proceedings for Transit Remand have been initiated so that he can be taken to Mumbai, In the meanwhile, the police are interrogating him to find out if anyone else is involved in the matter.
