Zupee onboards Facebook policy officer Ashwani Rana

Zupee, an upcoming mobile-gaming platform has appointed Ashwani Rana as their Chief Public Policy Officer on Thursday. Ashwani previously held Director of Public Policy position at Facebook (now Meta) for six years. He holds Masters in Management and Business Law and is an expert in Public Policy.

Ashwani has more than three decades of experience in senior leadership, including six years as Chief Regulatory Officer in Operations at Bharti Airtel. He held various positions in Bharti Airtel for a decade before quitting in 2016.

Zupee was founded in 2018 by IIT Kanpur graduate Dilsher Singh Malhi. The company benefitted from the growth of the online-gaming industry in the recent pandemic. The industry has 400 million users and is expected to have a $5 million market size in India. Zupee recently received $102 million from a Series B funding round and now totally have raised $121 million. Zupee has over 70 million downloads and the valuation of the company stood at $600 million in last funding round. Malhi said he believes that Rana’s experience in regulatory challenges will be instrumental for Zupee.

Earlier this year, Zupee partnered with telecom giant Reliance Jio, to provide a mobile-gaming experience to Jio users.
