Following the ban on illegal gambling websites found violating the Interactive Gambling Act of 2001, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has further requested the internet service providers (ISPs) in Australia to block eight more websites.
The new websites include Casino Jax, Mirax Casino, Wild Fortune Casino, Kosmonaut Casino, Slotozen, Rolling Slots, N1 Bet Casino, and No Deposit Kings.
As per YOGONET, the ACMA says that website blocking is just one of several enforcement tools it employs to combat unlawful online gambling. Currently, 709 illicit gambling and associated websites have been disabled since the ACMA’s initial banning requests in November 2019.
The authorities said, “The ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, it’s unlikely to have important customer protections. This means Australians who use illegal gambling services risk losing their money.”
ACMA back in November 2022 also blocked Pokizino and ABA Lucky 33 and prior to that, Winning Days, 21Bit Casino, Oshi Casino, Lucky Elf Casino, NeoSpin, Lets Lucky, Boho Casino, Ripper Casino, and BC.Game. The said games were all blocked in December.
Indian government has also started to crack down on such illegal betting websites that plague the online gaming sector. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) also banned more than 200 websites and apps recently in order to curb their presence.
Despite the ban, these websites are using surrogate advertisement to promote their websites. Surrogate websites pose as news websites but redirect the users to their betting websites. Some straight-up change their domains to bypass the ban.
