Electronics Arts announces sunset of Apex Legends Mobile and ceases Battlefield Mobile development

Published on:

Apex Legends Mobile reveals that Electronics Arts (EA) will sunset the game on May 1, 2023, at 4:00 pm PDT. The game will not be available after the given date, according to the latest tweet.

The in-game purchases are also disabled inside the game, and the company has asked players to use any accumulated currency on their in-game accounts, EA said in an official Blog post.

The official statement from Respawn Entertainment said, “We have made the painful decision to sunset Apex Legends Mobile. This decision does not come with ease. Factors beyond our control have prevented us from maintaining the high-quality experience and content that our players deserve.”

“As a result, the game will sunset on May 1, 2023, at 4 pm PDT, after which it will no longer be playable. Our gratitude to our players and teams for joining us on Apex Legends Mobile, even if for a short while, is unending. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you,” the developers added.

The game was officially released on May 16, 2022, and is shutting down in less than a year of release. The company previously stated that no refunds would be issued for in-game purchases as per the terms of the EA User Agreement.

While it is known that EA cannot compare to big companies like Google in terms of refunds, players are asking the company to at least refund all transactions made within the last 30–60 days, as they also recently released the lunar new year shop just before announcing the game sunset.

The game itself was fun to play; it was not able to muster as many players compared to other mobile games like Call of Duty Mobile or Free Fire. Players believe it was due to the complexity of the game, as the game required pretty powerful devices to run smoothly.

In another department of EA, the development for the upcoming Battlefield Mobile is also being ceased by the company. In its financial report for the third quarter of the fiscal year 2023, EA announced the closure of the Industrial Toys studio, which was developing the game and the cancellation of Battlefield Mobile’s development.

To better fulfill its goal for the Battlefield brand and satisfy its players’ expectations, the business made the decision to veer from the current course and focus on the development of the upcoming Battlefield title and improving battlefield 2042.
