The Director of Esports Federation of India (ESFI) Lokesh Suji has been elected to the membership committee of the International Esports Federation (IESF) for a three-year term.
This is the first time an Indian official has become a part of the membership committee of IESF. Notably, Suji is also currently serving as the Vice-President of the Asian Esports Federation (AESF).
The decision to elect Suji was taken during the recent Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of the IESF in Iasi, Romania on August 28. During the meeting, Suji received 42 out of 70 votes in his favour, leading to his election, News 18 reported.
Welcoming Suji to the committee, President of the IESF, Vlad Marinescu said, “We are thrilled to introduce Mr. Lokesh Suji as the newest addition to the IESF Membership Committee.”
Under Suji’s leadership, ESFI helped in organizing the national qualifiers that provided the players the chance to represent the country at the Asian Games. As of now, there are 15 professional players who will represent India at the upcoming Hangzhou Asian Games 2022. Prior to this, esports athletes from India had won bronze medals in Hearthstone and DOTA 2 at the Commonwealth Esports Championships.
On being selected to the membership committee, Suji said, “It is an honor to be elected to the Membership Committee of the IESF and be part of an organization that has been driving the global Esports movement forward for so long.”
