Masala Games, an independent game studio based in Ahmedabad, India, has announced the release of its PC title, Detective Dotson, on Steam. Founded by Electronic Arts and Pixar alumni Shalin Shodhan, Masala Games enters into the gaming world with a mystery adventure game set in a stylized rendition of modern-day India.

Detective Dotson places players in the shoes of Dotson, a detective, who embarks on a journey to unravel mysteries and solve crimes. The game narrative is inspired by Bollywood mystery films and Indian TV shows like CID. Players can now wishlist the game on the Steam store page and experience a preview of the adventure with the demo available for play. A trailer of the game has been released on YouTube as well.

The demo offers players a taste of Detective Dotson’s investigative ability as they explore the mysterious death of Dotson’s father. In the demo, one can chase down criminals, hunt for clues, create disguises, and recruit team members. The full game is set to release later this year.

Shalin Shodhan, Founder and CEO of Masala Games, describes Detective Dotson as a “love letter to modern-day India,” highlighting its unique narrative and inspiration drawn from Indian cinema and television.

Developed using Unity, Detective Dotson has an original soundtrack created in collaboration with Nikhil Rao from Indian Ocean. With relatively low system requirements, the game promises accessibility across a wide range of PCs, ensuring gamers of varying specifications can enjoy the experience.

The minimum system requirements for Detective Dotson are Windows 10 and above, MacOS Sierra and above and for Linux systems it is Ubuntu 20.04 and above.

Detective Dotson will be showcased at the Courage XL pre-GDC event on March 17 and will be available for play at the Masala Games booth during the GDC Expo from March 20 to March 22. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the game firsthand and even stand a chance to win a Nintendo Switch.

Masala Games CEO mentions that the company aims to deliver gaming experiences to players worldwide. With Detective Dotson, the studio sets out to capture the fans of mystery games.
