Massive leak reveals future plans for Epic Games store

A major leak from the Epic Games Store database, known as EpicDB, has revealed multiple unannounced games that Fortnite-maker Epic Games plans to introduce. This leak includes titles from publishers such as Bethesda, Sega, Square Enix, Rockstar, PlayStation, and Microsoft, according to reports from The Verge (via Wccftech), reported the Times of India.

The database includes details on both identifiable games and those listed under codenames. For example, “Parkside” is believed to be BioShock 4, while “Momo” is speculated to be a Final Fantasy 9 remake. Other codenames like “Selma” might correspond to the PC port of Red Dead Redemption 1, and “Utah” may refer to the PC version of The Last of Us Part 2.

In response to the leak, Epic Games has taken steps to prevent future breaches. “We released an update tonight so third-party tools can’t surface any new unpublished product titles from the Epic Games Store catalogue,” stated Epic Games. This update aims to protect the company’s plans and prevent further unauthorized disclosures.

This follows a similar leak last year involving Microsoft’s Xbox division. Documents revealed plans, including the launch of a disc-less Xbox Series X console, a new controller, a cloud-hybrid console, and several unannounced games from Bethesda.

Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Xbox, expressed disappointment in an email to employees. He stated, “We’ve seen the conversation around old emails and documents. It is hard to see our team’s work shared in this way because so much has changed and there’s so much to be excited about right now and in the future. We will share the real plans when we are ready.” He emphasized that the leaked documents were old and that their plans have since evolved.

The leak of Epic Games’ future plans might impact marketing strategies, competitive positioning, and consumer expectations. It also highlights the challenges companies face in safeguarding proprietary information in the digital age.
