Mesut Ozil to become professional eSports player, says agent

Published on:

Former Real Madrid and Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil is currently plying his trade in Turkey with Super Lig side Fenerbahce. Earlier this week, Mesut Ozil’s agent, Dr Erkut Sogut, disclosed that the German footballer was considering a career in professional eSports after retiring from football.

This created waves in the community, as fans anticipated the entry of the world cup winner into the world of eSports. Ozil this week has unfollowed Fenerbahce on social media after being told he will never play for the club again.

Besides being a leading soccer player having played at all levels of the game, Mesut Ozil is very good at Fortnite Battle Royale, having played the game since its early seasons. The footballer owns an esports team, M10 Sports, since 2018.

Ozil was removed from Fenerbahce’s first-team squad for disciplinary reasons, and a comeback may or may not happen. Dr Erkut Sogut, the manager for the star footballer in an interview with the Telegraph said there are other career opportunities his client would like to pursue.

Sogut told the Telegraph his star client Ozil was worth every penny of the £350,000-a-week he earned at Arsenal before revealing the midfielder is likely to become an esports player, a professional video-gamer, when his football career ends. “He will go more into esports, play himself and maybe become an esports athlete,” he was quoted saying of the 33-year-old.

However, Ozil finally broke his silence regarding the matter and dismissed the rumours as fake. In a post on the M10 official Instagram account, the former Arsenal star shared his thoughts about the same, requesting fans not to pay heed to any false news being shared on social media. “I have many goals that I would like to live in Fenerbahce, my childhood love. I will not quit football until I do these things.” (translated)
