Team Top-G won the DOTA 2 event at the most recently held National Esports Championships (NESC) 2023 organized by the Esports Federation of India (ESFI), and has secured its place in the regional qualifiers of the Global Esports Games 2023.
The team will now be facing Malaysia and Mongolia in the regional qualifiers in order to make its way to the global finals in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Team Top-G consists of IGL Manav Kunte (mnz), Krish Gupta (Krish-), Khaja Hussain (Pinkman), Ketan Goyal (Evil-ash), Vishal Vernekar (Hbk) and substitute Darshan Bata (A35).
“Winning the NESC 2023 for the second time this year is a surreal feeling. We want to express our gratitude to ESFI for providing the platform for us to represent India on the global stage, and we are determined to make our nation proud,” said team captain Kunte, as quoted by News 18.
Two of the players, Vishal Vernekar and Ketan Goyal, were also part of the team that secured a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Esports Championships in 2022.
The upcoming Global Esports Games 2023 will commence on December 11 and will feature four major esports titles, namely DOTA 2, Street Fighter, eFootball 2023, and PUBG Mobile. However, DOTA 2 is not the only game India will be taking part in. Other players will also be representing the country in the eFootball 2023 and Street Fighter 6 categories.
Meanwhile, Lokesh Suji, the Director of ESFI, congratulated the team for their performance at the NESC 2023 and securing a spot in the regional qualifiers. He further expressed his confidence in the team and said that their skills will help them ace the qualifiers, leading them to the finals in Riyadh.
