22 arrested in illegal lottery and gambling in Ludhiana

Ludhiana police busted a gambling racket in Janakpuri late on Sunday, arresting 21 accused, operating from a residence in the area. The Division Number 2 police busted the gambling racket after a tip-off from the locals pertaining to gambling operations being organized from a house in the Janakpuri area.

The officials arrested 21 accused people participating in the gambling events during their raid of the suspected residence. The arrests included Deepak Kohli of CMC Colony; Vishal Kumar, Abhishek Singh, and Babu Kumar of Hargobind Nagar; Krishan Kumar of Kundanpuri; Rajeev Kumar, Mohammad Inram, Mohammad Taid, Irfan, Mohammad Haider, and Pravesh of Janakpuri; Mohammad Aash, Mohammad Ifaaz, Mohammad Anwar, Gopal and Ramu Kumar of Ganesh Nagar; Sachin Kumar of Shiva Ji Nagar; Shivcharan and Ranjit Singh of Cheema Colony; Jahid of Baag Sufia Chowk; and Akshay Kumar Chadav.

Although the police apprehended the accused members, Paramjit Singh, suspected to be the chief operator of the gambling racket managed to flee the location, evading capture from the officers.

Migrant laborers made the majority of the accused apprehended from the spot

The investigating officer and Assistant sub-inspector Jagtar Singh revealed that out of 21 accused, most are migrant laborers working in the area and were lured in by the operators to bet on lottery numbers. The police also recovered ₹7,260 from the apprehended personnel. In the aftermath of the arrests, a case beneath sections 294 A (holding lottery workplace) of the Indian Penal Code, 13A, 3, 67 of the Gambling Act, and 7 (3) of the Lottery Act has been filed up against the accused on the Division quantity 2 police station.

The raid was conducted by the SHO Inspector, Arshdeep Kaur, who stated that they acted on secret information of a large gathering in a house in Janakpuri, suspecting illegal activities. The police found a large number of people present at the residence on their arrival, who were resorting to gambling and illegal lottery. Apart from the aforementioned cash, the officials also recovered slips of illegal lottery from the spot.
