The Kathmandu Metropolitan City issued a notice to seven casinos in the city to pay the entertainment tax within a week. The government body also warned them that action would be taken if they failed to comply within the given seven days. Kathmandu Metropolitan City says that various casinos located at star hotels have not paid the outstanding taxes since the fiscal year 2018-19.

The Financial Act of the province states that every casino must pay 50 Nepalese Rupees for each customer to the local government as the entertainment tax, revealed Shivraj Adhikari, the head of the revenue department of the metropolis. The Kathmandu Metropolitan City was forced to send the letters as the casino operators ignored repeated calls from the government body. 

The casinos are now expected to clear the dues for the outstanding taxes along with interest and fines. The penalties are prescribed by the Economic Act and the action will be taken in accordance with the Metropolis Revenue Act if the casinos fail to abide by the tax laws, as per the Himalayan Times reports.

Some of the other casinos on the Kathmandu Metropolitan City’s list, which are yet to pay the dues are the Casino Palace of Hotel ‘De L’ Annapurna located in Durbar Marg, Casino Rad of Radisson Hotel, Bally’s Nepal Casino of Malla Hotel located in Lekhnath Marg, Balco Casino of Hotel Aloft in Amrit Marg, Pride Entertainment and Recreation of Hyatt Regency in Taragaon, Casino Mahjong of Hotel Soaltee in Tahachal Marg.

These are the following companies that are yet to pay the entertainment tax, as per the city government:

1. Casino Palace, Hotel De L’ Annapurna, Durbar Marg
2. Deltin Casino, Marriott Hotel
3. Pride Entertainment and Recreation, Hyatt Regency
4. Casino Rad, Radisson Hotel
5. Bally’s Nepal Casino, Malla Hotel
6. Casino Mahjong, Hotel Soaltee
7. Balco Casino, Hotel Aloft
