A robber who stole batteries from automobiles parked at service roads and gas stations along the MIDC highway in Satara city was recently apprehended by the Satara police. The robber was identified as Sujit Dinkar Zhunjar, as he stole batteries from vehicles in order to play online rummy.

According to a police complaint lodged with the Satara police, several of the vehicles were having their batter stolen along the MIDC highway. Working on the complaint, the police were patrolling the area at night and came across a suspicious individual.

When the police apprehended him and extensively questioned him, he confessed to having stolen a total of 36 batteries from various vehicles in Satara city, including trucks and JCB equipment.

After some more investigation and questioning, Dinkar told that he used to play online rummy and confessed to stealing the vehicle batteries for the same reason. He used to sell the stolen batteries and then use the money to play online rummy.

A total of Rs 4 lakh 7 thousand worth of Motorcycles, mobile phones, and batteries were seized from him. The police informed that all the reports from vehicles that reported stolen batteries in the past 2–3 months had been contacted regarding the development.

A similar topic was also raised regarding the celebrity-promoting online rummy that leads to these situations by the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). Babasaheb Patil addressed a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis asking to take action against the promotion of online rummy in the state.

The NCP claimed that these advertisements encourage people to play online rummy and are the main cause of addiction. Patil also warned that the NCP would take legal action against the actors if the government does not take the situation seriously.
