Majestic Pride Casino cancels Vijayawada event after police permission refusal

Published on:

This year, the Sankranti celebrations at the K Convention Centre in Gudivada in the Krishna district created a political storm for operating a casino for three days. As per the opposition party, the K Convention Centre is owned by the then minister and Gudivada legislator Kodali Nani. He subsequently lost his ministerial berth in a recent cabinet reshuffle. The opposition TDP had then complained to district SP on Guidvada casino.

Now, Goa-based Majestic Pride tried to host a celebratory evening today in the Krishna district. The Majestic Pride Group had sent invitations with the venue as Ayana Hotel, Kankipadu. The invitations said live acts would be performed by Tollywood and Bollywood celebrities followed by drinks and dinners. While the invitation is silent about casino games, opposition parties alleged the ruling party’s conspiracy to operate a casino from Ayana premises.

According to local media, Pride Group obtained permission from the excise department for serving liquor and sought permission from the local police for a get-together. According to the hotel management, the organisers informed the event as a business promotion event.

Upon scrutiny, the local police refused permission and issued a warning to the hotel management. The ruling party leaders said the company came for business promotion and left after the police refused permission.
