MPL to set up 500-seater development centre in Hyderabad

Telangana government signed a MOU with Mobile Premier League (MPL), to set up a 500-seater game development centre in the state capital. The centre will be located in the upcoming IMAGE tower.

The IMAGE tower is built under private-public partnership model at an investment of Rs. 946 crore by the state government. The commercial property will cater to the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming & Comics (AVGC) sector. The commercial property offers an extensive16,00,000 sq. ft. area and will be available in first quarter of 2023.

The MoU was signed on Tuesday on the sidelines of IndiaJoy, a 4-day animation, visual effects and gaming industry event in the presence of IT Minister KT Rama Rao. IT and Industries Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan and Mobile Premier League CEO Sai Srinivas signed the MoU. The event is scheduled from November 16-19.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Minister KT Rama Rao said, “the IMAGE (Innovation in Multimedia, Animation, Gaming & Entertainment) sector is one which has been able to ride over the pandemic-created uncertainties with lots of resilience and innovation.”

The gaming unicorn will also work with Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK) to introduce special game development, animation and sport focused courses to enhance the availability of talent pool in the State.

The company, which recently relocated its registered office from Bengaluru to New Delhi claims to be India’s largest e-sport and mobile gaming platform. Everyday thousands of players join MPL, which offers a variety of tournaments and one-to-one battles. Incidentally, Telangana was one of the first states to prohibit gaming for stakes.
