Panvel police crackdowns on illegal gambling in public places

The Panvel city police apprehended five people on Tuesday, September 6, accused of gambling in public places. The authorities have been trying to curb illegal gambling activities in the city, especially in public places. They took swift action after the locals informed the police about the unlawful gambling practices in the area.

The series of events on Tuesday unfolded after a series of complaints from the general public regarding illegal gambling in public places. Several accused individuals have indulged in gambling by playing cards at public places like bus stands, railway stations, and others.

Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kadbane had formed a special team to crack down on the gangs active in holding such illegal gambling. Sr PI Kadbane led a special team after they received information about the illegal gambling of playing cards in the Panvel area. The team arrested five individuals during their raid accused of gambling and seized cash totaling around 6000 from the alleged perpetrators.

In addition to Panvel, residents of Koparkhairane, Sanpada, and several other regions have also complained about the illegal gambling activities conducted in public places.

Ludhiana police busts illegal lottery racket, arrest three accused

Notably, in another news, Ludhiana Police arrested three persons on the charges of running an illegal lottery business and seized cash from their possession. Cases under the Gambling Act and the Lottery Act were also registered against the suspects.

Harvinder Singh of Amarpura was apprehended by the police on the charges of running an illegal lottery and seized Rs 43,360 from the accused. But the police were unsuccessful in nabbing the lottery buyers who managed to evade the authorities. The investigating officer in the case, ASI Lakhwinder Singh, stated that the authorities acted on a tip-off and conducted a raid at Meena Bazaar from where the suspect was arrested. The cops seized a mobile phone from the suspect, which was used to run the illegal lottery in the area.
