A campaign to curb illegal gambling has been started in Sarmathura town of Baseri assembly in Dholpur district, Rajasthan under the direction of District Superintendent of Police (DST) Dharmendra Singh.

The DST and Sarmathura police station in-charge Devendra Sharma with his team have actively been seeking out reports of illegal gambling and have successfully arrested two bookies involved in the illegal activity.

The police have also seized a total of INR 1,21,240 and speculative equipment from the arrested individuals. According to the Police station supervisor Devendra Sharma, “A police team was organized at the Sarmathura police station on the particular advice of Constable Avnesh Kumar of the DST team Dholpur, and the DST team took action against bookies in the area.”

“Speculative amount and speculative equipment of Rs 1,21,240 were recovered from the possession of the arrested accused, on which the investigation is going on by registering 384/2022 section 13 RPGO police station in Sarmathura against the accused,” he added.

Rashid’s son Lotan Muslim, a 40-year-old resident of Sahni Pada Sarmathura, and Amit son Pappu Dhakad, a 26-year-old resident of Bharai Pada Sarmathura, were both detained while participating in the action.

Cases against one of the arrested ‘Rashid’ have also been registered in the past at the police station in the RPGO.

People who partake in illegal gambling and betting activities in the town are now getting scared with the police force in action. Police station in-charge Devendra Sharma, DST sub-inspector Ajit Singh, head constable Yogesh Tiwari, constable Avnish Kumar, Kapil, Lalit, Rajendra Yogendra, Birbal, RAC constable Ganesh, Suresh, Harinder Singh were present in the police force while the arrests took place.

Several cases of illegal gambling also took place in Assam recently which increased during Diwali but the police were unable to keep the gamblers in check.
