Three arrested for betting during IPL in Narendra Modi Stadium

Chandkheda police arrested three individuals for illegal betting activities during the twenty-twenty clash between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Narendra Modi cricket stadium. This marks a further increase in the recent wave of arrests linked to illegal betting activities.

As reported by Times of India, the first incident took place when Constable Chirag Jayram, stationed with the Zone 2 local crime branch. He got information at 5:30 that some people were involved in unauthorized betting activities within the stadium. Responding to the tip-off, law enforcement officials went upon Seat 234 in Row 9 of the President’s Gallery, where they arrested Dipak Mohanani, a 34-year-old resident of Himmatnagar in Sabarkantha. 

Mohanani was caught red-handed, placing bets for seventeen clients while wielding master IDs for two betting platforms, allegedly sourced from Rajesh Maheshwari of Deesa in Banaskantha.

In a separate incident, Constable Mayur Arjunsinh spotted Shubham Parmar, 28, from Parmeshwar Society on IOC Road in Chandkheda, engaging in suspicious activity on Seat 103 in Block N. Upon investigation, Parmar was found to be placing illegal bets on the match via his mobile phone. He claimed that he had obtained gambling app ID through instagram.

The third arrest came because of the observation of Constable Rajnish Hari. He observed Priyank Darji from Sector 14 in Gandhinagar, operating his mobile phone suspiciously at Seat BBB-128 in Block M. Darji was intercepted by the authorities and found to be indulging in unauthorized betting through a betting website, facilitated by an individual named Vishal from Ahmedabad.

All three suspects were arrested under the Prevention of Gambling Act, marking a move by law enforcement against illegal betting activities during sporting events.
