UP Police bust illegal casino in Meerut, 43 arrested

43 people including nine women were arrested after the police raided an illegal casino on Sunday, July 17 in the Partapur area. Cash amounting to INR six lakh was seized in a raid that was conducted on the Octri Marriage Home. The news has been officially confirmed by Rohit Singh Sajwan, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). 

It was further added that the accused would be produced in a court. The culprits who have been arrested belong from different parts of India including Delhi, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, etc. and some of them are also from Nepal.

Two of the accused in this gambling racket named Kapil and Ravi hail from Delhi and while another member Piyush Garg hails from Dehradun, was confirmed by SSP according to The Print. The culprits were allegedly involved in similar crimes in Dehradun and Goa. 

This is not the first instance of the Police busting an illegal casino in the country. Earlier this month, the Noida Police busted an illegal casino set up inside a flat in a housing society and arrested 10 people. 

Deputy Commissioner of Police Harish Chander stated that the local Bisrakh Police station was tipped off about the same. “The casino was set up on Wednesday only. Bisrakh Police Station officials had got an input about some people visiting the casino. 

“A total of 10 people including four women were arrested from the spot. Over Rs 1 lakh cash and and liquor bottles among other items were seized,” Chander had said. 

Four Nepalese Women Riya, Cheeja, Shiva and Sunita, were also held from the spot according to the police. An FIR under provisions of public gambling act was lodged at the Bisrakh police station and further legal proceedings were carried out.
