Gujarat: 10 arrested for playing poker inside moving bus

Viramgam town police arrested 10 individuals from Bopal on the night of Sunday, June 25, at the Rahemalpur Crossroads on the Viramgam-Malvan route for allegedly gambling on a bus travelling from Sanand to Kutch.

The police acted on a tip-off about people gambling on a bus from Sanand to Lakhpat according to the FIR filed at Viramgam town police station. After receiving the information, a police team who had been waiting at the Rahemalpur Crossroads halted the bus for a quick search.

There were 29 people on the bus, according to a police officer, all of whom are residents of the same village who were travelling to Mata No Madh in Lakhpat on a pilgrimage. The police found 10 people at the rear seats playing poker for cash.

“Ten passengers had started gambling in the back seats. When the police team entered the bus, the ten men from Bopal were gambling inside it,” a police officer stated as quoted by The Times of India. The police also seized Rs 2.40 lakh in cash and mobile phones from the individuals.

Furthermore, the ten arrested individuals are identified as Ankit Patel, Chintan Patel, Yagnesh Patel, Umang Patel, Parth Patel, Hemant Patel, Jigar Patel, Sachin Patel, Lakshit Patel and Maulik Patel. All of them belong to the similar age group and are charged under the relevant Gambling Act.

Illegal gambling cases on a rise

Previously, in another case, a 39-year-old individual in Goa was running a ‘mini casino’ for gambling inside his shop near Sapana Park, next to Laxmi Restaurant.

The police raided the establishment after receiving reports from parents complaining that their children lost money and recovered Rs 2 lakh. The police also arrested the owner of the establishment, named Praveen, in the case.
