In a recent interview on the ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ show by India TV, the richest industrialist in India, Gautam Adani, admitted to playing rummy with his wife after work.

Towards the end of the interview, when Adani was sharing about how he spends time with his family, the host of the show, Rajat Sharma, revealed about him playing cards to which he chuckled and said that the information was a secret.

He further said that he usually plays rummy with his wife, Priti, after getting back home from work which involves around 8–10 games every day. He also admitted that his wife wins most of the games.

Rummy has been a popular card game not only in India but across the globe since ages. Due to the pandemic, the game has gained a lot more popularity in recent days, with many platforms providing people the option to play the game online.

Rummy has been categorized as a Game of Skill by the Supreme Court and is considered as legal.

Games of Skill are those games that require a significant amount of skill to win, like rummy and poker, in which the element of chance is lesser. On the other hand, the games that contain the element of chance more than the element of skill are categorized as Games of Chance. Even though rummy is categorized as a Game of Skill, not all states allow it as a legal activity.

The online rummy market during 2019 was estimated to be around $335 million in India but with the recent surge of interest in people and the growing online gaming industry, the online rummy market is estimated to cross $1.4 billion mark by 2024 as per a Redseer survey.
