Rummy and Teen Patti – Which is more popular during Indian festivals?

Published on:

As India is ready to welcome another festival season, online and offline card games will be popular amongst the Indian gaming enthusiasts. Some of the most enjoyed card games in the country include rummy, teen patti, bluff, court piece, and teen do panch. However, rummy and teen patti are two of the most played online card games in India.

It may not be difficult to figure out which game is more prominent between rummy and teen patti, but let us first take a look at the brief description of both games.

Indian Rummy

The Indian Rummy is one of the most prominent online card games in India and more than a dozen online gaming platforms make it available in India. Playing online rummy cash games is entirely legal in India as rummy is considered a game of skill.

Talking about its rules, the game involves making valid sets out of 13 cards that are distributed among every player on the table. Every player is given 13 cards at first, if the number of players is limited to just two people, then a single deck is chosen for the game and if there are six players, two decks of 52 cards each are combined for the game.

Every player on the table needs to draw and discard cards in turns till one player melds his/her cards with valid sets that meet the Rummy validation rules. For example, 5, 6, 7 of the same suit, or run, and 7, 7, 7 of a different suit is a set.

Teen Patti

Teen Patti has also made its own place in the Indian online card gaming arena. It is one of the most popular games played online. The name teen patti means three cards as each player receives three cards in their hand and they have to bet on their value.

The game is played just like Poker, with the dealer giving out cards one at a time. Players must make a minimum bet before cards are dealt. Once all cards are dealt with, players can make another bet if they wish.

Typically, players will want to look at their cards before making another bet. However, a player can opt to leave their cards face-down on the table; this is known as playing blind. Players can also fold once the cards are dealt if they don’t think they’ll win. On the other hand, you can also increase your bid if you’re feeling lucky or have a valuable hand. Once the final bets are made, players show their cards, with the highest value hand winning.

Which game is more popular in India?

Even though both games seem very interesting, rummy is the ultimate winner when it comes to ruling the online card gaming arena. As mentioned above, rummy is completely legal in India as it is a game based purely on skill. On the other hand, the same cannot be said about Teen Patti as it involves an element of luck due to the ‘blind’ move.

According to the provisions of most state gaming legislation, games involving a higher element of chance are termed illegal, and playing such games in the hope of winning money is not permitted in the country.
