ESFI opens registrations for upcoming WEC 2024

The Esports Federation of India (ESFI) has announced the registrations for the National Esports Championships (NESC) 2024, marking the beginning of the journey towards the 16th World Esports Championships (WEC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia reported MediaBrief.

NESC 2024, will begin on April 18. The championship will witness players from across India showcasing their skills in DOTA 2 (Open), eFootball (Open), and Counter-Strike 2 in both open and female categories. The Print mentioned that the winners of the online qualifiers will progress to the regional qualifiers, where they will compete against other Asian countries for a chance to secure their spot in the global finals of the WEC 2024 to be held in Riyadh, starting on November 11.

Organized by the International Esports Federation (IESF), the WEC 2024 will feature 609 teams representing their countries across five game titles. These titles include Counter Strike 2 (Open and Female), Dota2, eFootballâ„¢ series, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (Open and Female), and PUBG MOBILE. For the first time, the tournament has announced a prize pool of $1 million, to be distributed among the top 8 teams in each game title and category.

Vinod Tiwari, President of Esports Federation of India (ESFI), expressed interest for the upcoming championships. He said, “After a historic 2023, where India made its debut at the Asian Games 2022, we are excited to embark on a new year of opportunities with the NESC 2024.” Tiwari highlighted the achievements of female athletes, noting the success of last year’s female CS: GO qualifiers and expressing anticipation for accomplishments this year.

Gamers who are interested in participating can register themselves before 15th April. The details of the registration process are detailed on ESFI’s Discord server. The online qualifiers will adopt a double-elimination format, offering a platform for participants to compete. The event will be live-streamed on ESFI’s official YouTube and Facebook pages.
