IQOO announces esports tournament with Rs 10 lakh prize pool

IQOO, a Vivo-backed smartphone brand, has announced its Pro Series Esports Tournament, which is scheduled to take place from June 27 to July 2. The prize pool for the tournament will be Rs 10 lakh. Since the popular mobile game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has returned after its temporary unban, the tournament might see an increased participation.

IQOO has arguably come forward with the esports tournament to increase the scale of mobile esports and gaming, which is a significantly increasing market in India. The participants from across the country will be able to take part in the event, and thus, they will get a platform to showcase their gaming abilities.

As reported by Hindustan Times, The six-day event will begin on Tuesday, June 27, and will see a total of 24 esports squads from all corners of the country rolling up sleeves against each other in an attempt to win the title. The event will be streamed live on the official networks of the organizer, and will finally end with a prize distribution event on Sunday, July 2. A few other promotional events will also be held by the organizer.

Indian esports and mobile gaming industry to grow exponentially

In other news, a report by exchange4media suggests that the Indian gaming industry is expected to grow with a CAGR of 27% by the year 2027. The reports suggest so thanks to affordability of smartphones and high-speed internet connectivity in the country.

India recorded more than 750 million active internet users in 2022 with the majority of them playing online games across various platforms and genres. According to the report, the gaming market is set to reach $8.6 billion in FY27. The digital revolution has surely taken the gaming industry by storm, and many are looking forward to making a career in esports.
