Dream11 surpasses 1 crore app downloads on PlayStore

Published on:

Fantasy gaming platform Dream11 is making rapid strides in the country, benefitting from Google’s revamped policy of allowing rummy and fantasy sports apps on the PlayStore. The real money gaming leader surpassed 1 crore (10 million) downloads on the platform last week after debuting on the PlayStore in October earlier this year.

Real money gaming apps in India received a major boost earlier this year after US-based teach giants Google allowed fantasy sports and rummy games on the PlayStore on a pilot basis from 28th September 2022 to 28th September 2023.

Dream11, which is India’s leading fantasy sports app for fantasy cricket, football, kabaddi, basketball, hockey, volleyball, handball, rugby, futsal & baseball, crossed 1 crore downloads, becoming the first fantasy app to reach the milestone. The Indian fantasy sports company completed 1 million downloads in late October and is showing no signs of slowing down either.

Apart from Dream11, MPL: Rummy & Fantasy Cricket has also breached 1 million downloads on PlayStore. A23 Rummy, an online rummy platform promoted by Bollywood megastar Shahrukh Khan has also registered over a million downloads on the PlayStore in a relatively short span of time. Classic Rummy Plus by Nazara-owned OpenPlay has also received over 50,000 downloads since October.

Meanwhile, free-to-play simulation rummy games like Indian Rummy by Junglee Games is still going strong, with over 1 crore downloads on the PlayStore. One of Dream11’s biggest competitors, My11Circle, endorsed by former Indian cricketer and iconic skipper Sourav Ganguly, has also garnered over 1 million downloads on the PlayStore.

Meanwhile, Dream11 was tangled in a controversy recently surrounding one of their latest ads including Indian batter Rishabh Pant after receiving backlash from the Indian music industry. The leading fantasy sports company has been criticized for disrespecting Indian culture and hurting the sentiments of the people plying their trade in the classical music genre.
