Canadian rapper Aubrey Drake Graham, popularly known as Drake, has placed a  bet worth INR 5 crore on Team India to defeat arch-rivals Pakistan in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 match. The highly anticipated clash is set to take place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York on Sunday, June 9.

This match marks the ninth encounter between India and Pakistan in T20 World Cup history. Out of their eight previous meetings, India has dominated with seven wins, while Pakistan secured a victory in the 2021 edition of the tournament. Given India’s strong track record, Drake has decided to back the Men in Blue, led by Rohit Sharma, to continue their winning streak according to The Free Press Journal

As reported by Inside Sport, stake, a betting platform, confirmed Drake’s high-stakes on its Instagram handle, highlighting the rapper’s participation in the betting scene for this high-voltage match. This isn’t the first time Drake has ventured into cricket betting; he previously placed a successful bet of INR 2 crore on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to win the IPL 2024 Final. KKR, captained by Shreyas Iyer, went on to defeat Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad to claim their third IPL title.

India enters this match as the favorites, having started their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing eight-wicket victory over Ireland.

In stark contrast, Pakistan experienced a shocking defeat in their opening match against co-hosts USA. Despite leveling the score at 159 in 20 overs, Pakistan faltered in the Super Over, managing only 13 runs in response to USA’s 18/1. This unexpected loss has put Pakistan under pressure ahead of their crucial game against India.

The clash between India and Pakistan is often described as the pinnacle of cricket rivalries, akin to the Super Bowl in American sports, as noted by former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi. With the added excitement of Drake’s high-profile bet, all eyes will be on the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on Sunday as the two teams battle it out in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
