In a recent operation targeting cricket betting, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) joined hands with income-tax officials. This joint operation conducted 11 raids across Ahmedabad, and uncovered over Rs. 18 crore in cash, one kg of gold, and foreign currency, reported ANI.
Mukesh Patel, Superintendent of Police (SP) for CID Crime in the Ahmedabad zone, disclosed that the took place on May 8.
According to Patel, the CID crime station in Ahmedabad had previously handled a cricket betting case involving online gaming applications and dummy accounts. Upon analysing these accounts, authorities identified several gambling companies operating in Ahmedabad.
Patel said, “On Friday, that is, on the 8th of the month, simultaneous raids were conducted at 11 different locations with income tax officers, police inspectors, and body-worn cameras.” The raids resulted in the recovery of Rs. 18.55 crore in cash, 1kg of gold, and approximately 64 lakh in foreign currency from various sites.
The entire raid operation, including the use of body-worn cameras, was conducted in the presence of income tax officers. Cash that was confiscated during the operation was reported to the income tax department. The electronic gadgets that were seized from the suspects have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for analysis.
Despite the significant discoveries, no arrests have been made in connection with the case as of yet, confirmed Patel. The CID continues its investigation into the matter.
