Facebook Gaming app to be officially shut down in October

Published on:

The Facebook Gaming App which was only launched more than two years ago by them is now set to be officially shut down on October 28, 2022. This means that post the 28th of October the gaming app would no longer be available on the Android and IOS platforms. In fact, it will neither be available on the Google Play Store nor the Apple App Store.

This gaming app was launched in April 2020 during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. The motive behind this strategy was to provide a platform to its dedicated users for live streaming their favorite content, playing instant games, and participating in gaming groups.

However, Facebook did face a lot of challenges while launching this app as they had to deal with multiple setbacks. This app was rejected by Apple on several occasions stating that they were not convinced with some of the rules. That was not all as Facebook was also forced to remove the actual gameplay functionality from the app due to Apple’s rules.

We know how important gaming is to our community- A spokesperson

“We know how important gaming is to our community and remain committed to connecting our gaming community with the content they love,” a spokesperson for Meta told TechCrunch in a statement.

“The standalone Facebook Gaming app has been an incredible environment for our gaming team to test and iterate on a wide variety of gaming-specific features and products, and many of these features have found a home in the main Facebook App. We’ll continue to support our gaming communities, developers, and creators on the main Facebook app where hundreds of millions of people play games, watch gaming video, and connect in gaming Groups each month.”

As of now, there is no clarity on why exactly Meta has decided to shut down the application completely. Nonetheless, it has been learned that the company might provide some details about why it took such a sudden decision in the first place. The clarity is expected to be given in the future.
