The Enforcement Directorate (ED), on Saturday, August 26, froze bank accounts that were used for illegal betting. The said has been done in accordance with the provisions under Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002. As per ED disclosures, the frozen accounts belonged to Bengaluru, Karnataka and contained balances of Rs 5.87 crores.

The DGGI (Directorate General of Goods and Services Intelligence) noticed alleged involvement of several companies in activities related to illegal betting and online gambling. DDGI then informed the same to Vivek Nagar Police Station, and an FIR against the same was registered.

The method of placing illegal bets was not something very uncommon. Firstly, the operators purchased fake SIM cards, and then opened bank accounts under the name to place bets.

Rockstar Interactive, Indie World Studio, Falcon Entertainment Agencies, The Next Level Technology, Rift Gamer Technologies, Reality Code Technology, Tenes Solutions, Electronic Virtual Solutions, Zazago Systems, Zynga Interactive, Whale Bytes Technology, Iobitcode Interactive Agency, Oculus Valve Entertainment and Nestra Web Solutions are the names of all the fugitive companies that were used to carry out online transactions.

Common methods being used to carry out illegal betting

Meanwhile, bestartech, khelo24bet and betinexchange are the names of the sites that were used for illegal betting. This method is very common, as sites like Mahadev Book have also used this method to carry out mass level of illegal betting operations across the country.

Coincidentally, ED is also actively investigating illegal operations of Mahadev Book betting app. Saurabh Chandrakar, Ravi Uppal and their operators are now on the radar of ED. The ED recently conducted raids at residences of Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel’s close aides.

ED and state police of Chhattisgarh have paced up their investigations against Mahadev Book operatives. While it seems that big breakthroughs will be made under the bust, it remains to be seen if illegal betting activities will ever come to a complete end.
