Delhi Police arrested seven people on Monday for indulging in gambling using illegal offshore betting applications Bullet and Tiger 24×7. According to a police official, the crime branch is constantly on the lookout for illegal betting activities during this IPL season.

The betting platforms were streaming matches live while providing people a way to gamble. The seven individuals arrested have been identified as Mohit Batra, Rajat, Jatin, Shekhar Pal, Ashok Kumar, Pawan Kumar and Chanakya Babbar. All of them are reportedly from Delhi, according to Daijiworld.

Special Commissioner of Police, Ravindra Singh Yadav said, “Specific inputs were received by the team that a syndicate of gamblers are betting on ongoing IPL matches at Rohini following which a raid was conducted. However, the gate of the flat was found locked.”

During the raid, Pushpa, a female head constable, knocked on the door where the illegal gambling activity was taking place. When the door opened, the police squad rushed inside and arrested all seven people.

According to Yadav, the seven culprits were operating an IPL betting racket using these illegal betting platforms. During the raid, the police seized 31 smartphones, three laptops and other electronic items that were being used to take bets. “The syndicate used to maintain the transactions with the help of an i-betting assistant,” he added.

Meanwhile, a number of similar cases have emerged from several other states since the start of the IPL season. Recently, the Enforcement Directorate froze five bank accounts that contained over Rs 3 crore relating to similar illegal betting activities and were about to be sent overseas. Further investigation revealed that over 93 other bank accounts are also linked to the case.
