Three arrested in Goa for illegal cricket betting, police seize evidence

The Porvorim Police conducted a successful raid on a private bungalow located in Salvador do Munro, Bardez, Goa. The operation, led by Police Inspector Rahul Parab along with a dedicated team of officers and constables, resulted in the apprehension of three individuals involved in illegal cricket betting reported the Times of India.

Acting on credible information, the police organized the raid, leading to the arrest of Khaljeet Singh (34 years old), Nitesh Kumar (20 years old), and Rahul Chowhan (27 years old), all natives of West Bengal. The accused were found engaged in illegal cricket betting activities, violating sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.

During the raid, the police seized evidence, including mobile phones, a laptop, a wifi router, and other articles valued at Rs. 1,70,000/-. This seizure serves as crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.

Porvorim Police Inspector Rahul Parab emphasized the importance of the timely raid. In a quote to the Herald Goa he said, “We received credible information about the illegal cricket betting activities taking place at the bungalow in Salvador do Munro. Our team swiftly organized a raid, resulting in the arrest of the three accused persons and the confiscation of evidence.”

The raiding team, comprised of officers and constables, including Utkarsh Dessai, Mahadev Naik, Siddhesh Naik, Tushar Raut, and Nitesh Gaude, executed the operation accurately. The accused individuals are currently in police custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.

Supervision of the ongoing investigation is being carried out by Superintendent of Police North, Akshat Kaushal, IPS, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Porvorim, ensuring thorough examination and adherence to legal protocols. The Porvorim Police remain committed to cracking down on such illicit activities to uphold the integrity of sports and enforce the law effectively.
