Woman from Punjab arrested by Tripura police for gambling racket

A Crime Branch Unit of Tripura Police has nabbed a woman from Amritsar for her alleged involvement in an online fraud through an app-based betting platform named ”Sports Fantasy” reported Senital Assam.

The woman identified as Anchal was nabbed from Amritsar airport and was brought to Agartala on a transit remand. She has been charged under IPC section 420 as she was involved in looting people through the betting app.

As per the reports, the woman cheated a huge number of clients, who used the platform to wager. After her arrest, she was produced before the West Tripura Session Court, from where she was sent into police custody for five days.

After a preliminary investigation, the case was transferred to the Crime Branch Unit following which a lookout notice was issued. Reportedly, she was nabbed when she was on her way to Dubai. The police had information that she was trying to escape from India to escape from the cases filed against her at different police stations.

Earlier this month, a gambling racket was busted at a hotel on Palhowal Road, Ludhiana with the arrest of 11 people. In a similar incident in Southern state Telangana, a ruling party MLA was alleged to be caught playing rummy prompting opposition Congress to accuse the ruling party of shielding rummy operators.
