4) FC Schalke 04

Most of the football clubs started their esports journeys with FIFA online. However, the German club FC Schalke 04 started out with its entry into the professional League of Legends through a spot in the European LCS in May 2016.

The first tournament along with many others, however, were not monumental. Subsequently, the club signed a new roster which resulted in some wins especially against one of its rival clubs, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). During Covid-19, the club sold its LEC slot to a Swiss esports organization called Team BDS.

Later on, the club also signed up players for its FIFA roster. Though the esports teams have not won any major tournaments, they did secure spots in regional semi-finals. Unfortunately for them, they were bested by their opponents.
