South Korean video game developer Krafton’s latest game in the Indian market Road to Valor: Empires is getting its first esports tournament hosted by the company featuring a prize pool of Rs 10 lakh.
The announcement came soon after the BGMI unban and with the rebranding of BGMI esports YouTube channel as new dedicate esports channel called ‘Krafton India Esports’ where the company plans to host all further tournaments for games released by them.
Announcing the Open Championship, CEO of Krafton India, Sean Hyunil Sohn said, “We are thrilled to announce the Road To Valor: Empires Open Championship and the launch of Krafton India Esports channels.”
“We believe India has a strong talent pool in strategy gaming, and we hope this tournament provides a platform for all aspiring players in this segment. India has always been an important market for us, and we are committed to nurturing the Esports ecosystem in the country,” he further added.
The game launched back in March in partnership with popular esports organization S8UL. The company believes that there is a lot in terms of talent for these games in Indian community. With the announcement of the tournament, the company expressed that they want to give those players a chance to rise to the top.
Despite being termed as a casual game it is great to see Krafton organizing a full-fledged tournament for the game soon after the release. This also coincides with Krafton’s plan to expand with more gaming titles along with focusing of the web3 and metaverse gaming scene.
While Krafton said that the tournament will commence some time in June 2023, the schedule is yet to be made public. Since the tournament is ‘Open Championship’ anyone can participate and make their way to the top of the leaderboard.
