Mayhem Studios unveils closed beta for highly anticipated AAA title “Underworld Gang Wars”

Published on:

Mayhem Studios, backed by the gaming unicorn Mobile Premier League (MPL), has officially declared the closed beta phase for their groundbreaking AAA game, “Underworld Gang Wars” (UGW). The closed beta, following successful alpha playtests and a recent community playtest, allows selected users to experience the game first-hand after completing the registration process.

Since the official announcement of UGW last year, the game has garnered over 7 million pre-registrations, making it one of the most eagerly awaited AAA titles reported Money Control. Mayhem Studios aims to provide a unique gaming experience by infusing Indian elements not only into the theme and characters but also into the game’s hotspots, which are deeply rooted in India.

The closed beta registration process has started, offering gamers the opportunity to participate by filling out a form available on the official website. Along with this announcement, Mayhem Studios has unveiled a new cinematic trailer, providing a sneak peek into the game’s world, introducing lead characters, highlighting different hotspots, and marking the launch of the much-anticipated closed beta.

UGW, a battle royale game, will be played in the first-person perspective, allowing players to explore 16 unique hotspots representing Indian locations, including a fort, ghats, and a mandi, a first in AAA gaming. Players can join one of two gangs, “The Velvets” or “The Bhokal Toli,” and engage in thrilling gameplay with a range of weapons, including innovative additions like the hammer and the Katta.

Mayhem Studios CEO, Ojas Vipat, expressed excitement about the closed beta, stating, “We look forward to seeing the reaction of UGW fans who have shown us great love and support ever since we announced the title.” He emphasized Mayhem Studios’ commitment to developing high-quality games and gaming-related intellectual property in India, with UGW being the first step toward that vision.

Mayhem Studios, launched by MPL in May 2022, raised approximately $20 million in 2023 from investors like Peak XV Partners, Steadview Capital, Truecaller, and Hashed Emergent. The company aims to make a significant impact on the gaming industry, both domestically and internationally.

While UGW promises to be a game-changer in the Indian gaming landscape, it faces competition from other locally developed titles like Super Gaming’s “Indus.” The battle royale genre is currently dominated by popular games like Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) and Free Fire, but Mayhem Studios is poised to carve its niche with UGW’s unique Indian-centric approach.

The closed beta signifies a crucial phase in UGW’s journey, offering gamers an exclusive preview and providing Mayhem Studios with valuable feedback as they prepare for the official launch. The game’s innovative blend of Indian culture and battle-royale genre promises a fresh and exciting experience for players in the rapidly growing Indian gaming market.
