The police received a tip-off prior to the match, according to the Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch. Following the information, the police reached a bungalow in Chandkheda, where they found all 12 betting on the cricket match.

An FIR has been filed against the arrested individuals. The police revealed that these people were using false identities to open bank accounts for the sole purpose of betting. During the raid, the police also found laptops and mobile phones being used for betting.

All the equipment used in betting has been seized along with Rs 4.84 lakh worth of foreign currency. The arrested individuals are charged under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Prevention of Gambling Act and Information Technology (IT) Act.

This is only one of the several cases that are occurring on a regular basis during the IPL season. Cases across many other cities like Gurugram, Faridabad, and Pune have also been uncovered by the police.

Many popular social media accounts are also one of the major reasons for these illegal gambling activities. These pages advertise offshore gambling companies along with their regular content, despite the Information and Broadcast Ministry issuing advisories to refrain from promoting gambling in any form.

Online betting websites proving gambling services are banned in India due to the nature of their business. The websites lure users by promising them huge profits and are not based in India in order to avoid paying any form of taxes.
