A 26-year-old man was arrested from the Memnagar locality of Ahmedabad by the police on Sunday night for reportedly using a website to gamble on the board game ludo.
In his FIR, police constable Prakash Ramesh stated that he and his colleague Vishwarajsinh Hardevsinh were out on patrol on Sunday night. They received a tip-off that a man was gambling on a game of ludo while he was standing close to the Manav Mandir bus stop.
When the two constables reached the spot, they discovered the man, identified as Dhaval Goswami, playing the game on a website. Goswami lives at Trimurti Apartments in the vicinity of Sukhupura in Memnagar.
The constables took a screenshot of the game and discovered that Goswami was gambling and had gained Rs 8,000. He told the police that winning amount will transferred to his account on the website. The police have charged Goswami for gambling, as per The Times of India.
Meanwhile, in another case involving online ludo, an Indian man fell in love with a Pakistani resident, whom he met while playing the game, and brought her to India illegally. The Bengaluru police have arrested the duo. They handed over the woman to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office and have charged the man under several sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The landlord who gave the couple a room on rent has also been charged under Section 7 of the Foreigners Act, 1946 for not collecting necessary details of them and failing to provide the same to the police.
There was also a case involving ludo which surfaced in December last year in which a UP woman had bet herself. According to the reports, the woman’s husband said that his wife was addicted to playing ludo and had bet herself in a match with their landlord while he was out of town for work.
When questioned, the woman told the police that it was her husband who was addicted to the game and not her.
