More than 25 arrested for gambling across Chandigarh, Ludhiana

Police arrested nine people for gambling in public places in Chandigarh on Tuesday night and seized a total of Rs 73,250 in the process. The arrested people were from two different groups gambling in different places.

In the first group, the four arrested are Dalip Kumar Tiwari, Vinod Kumar, Ashish Kumar and Ramesh of Deep Complex, Hallo Majra. They were arrested from near the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp, Hallo Majra and a total of Rs 5,850 was seized from them.

In the other group, the five arrested include Vishal, Kuldeep Singh, Arun Rana, Khokhan and Roop Chand. They were arrested from the ground near DRDO wall, Phase 2, Industrial Area. Police seized a total of Rs 67,400 from them.

Two FIRs have been registered against people of both groups at Sector 31 police station. However, the accused are now out on bail.

On the other hand, a similar case of illegal gambling has occurred in Ludhiana on the same night where the anti-narcotics cell raided a house in Fateh Singh Nagar, Model Town and caught 17 people indulging in gambling. A huge sum of Rs 12.5 lakh and nine sets of playing cards were seized during the raid.

Suspects involved in the act are reported to be Kamal Arora, Sumit Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Sunil Gupta, Anil Kumar, Inderpal Singh, Sunny Chopra, Raj Kumar, Ravi, Sachin, Naveen Aggarwal, Ankit Arora, Ravi Kumar, Prabhjot Singh, Abhishek Kapoor, Raj Kumar and Rabsimran. A case under the Gambling Act has been registered against them.

According to ADCP (Crime) Rupinder Kaur Sran, the police received a tip-off that more than 12 people were partaking in illegal gambling at a house in Fateh Singh Nagar during their patrolling on Tuesday night. Further investigations of their involvement in other cases are also being conducted.
