Over 80 booked in Ahmedabad for illegal gambling, Rs 1.58 crore seized

Ahmedabad police arrested 89 people on Monday night in the Paldi area for illegal gambling. During the bust, the police also recovered Rs 1.58 crore of equipment and cash from the site.

While on patrol, the Ellisbridge police surveillance unit received information about some people gambling at the nearby apartments. As the team knocked on flats, they discovered a group of men gambling while seated in circles.

Inspector at Ellisbridge police station, BG Chetariya, said, “The people got together for a wedding engagement ceremony on Tuesday. As a part of the celebration, they were gambling in two flats of Laxmi Niwas near Pritamnagar Akhada in Paldi and were caught while patrolling,” according to The Indian Express.

According to the report, around Rs 3.74 lakh in cash, along with 98 phones worth Rs 29.38 lakh and 35 two-wheelers and 18 cars worth Rs 1.26 crore, was confiscated from them. The gambling session was held as an engagement celebration.

Chetariya said that an FIR had been filed against the arrested individuals. The relatives of the people arrested gathered outside the police station. One of the relatives said, “We do not know what exactly happened and are not among the ones booked. Most of the people outside are for the case.”

In another case, a 21-year-old college student addicted to gambling was arrested for allegedly robbing the possessions of teenage girls and selling them to gamble in casinos in Goa.

The person is identified as Yash Moolchandani and is now arrested by the police. In the most recent case, Moolchandani duped a teenage girl from Andheri. Both of them met through social media and arranges a get-together.

According to reports, while the girl went to the washroom, Moolchandani took all her possessions and fled. The police arrested the culprit by tracking his phone. An officer revealed that more than six cases had been registered against him in Mumbai in the last three months.
