Halo creative lead joins Netflix Games after parting ways with Microsoft

Creative Lead for Halo, Joseph Staten, recently announced that he has now joined Netflix Games as a Creative Director for their upcoming AAA game, one of Netflix’s original Intellectual Property (IP).

Staten recently left Microsoft after working with them for nine years. He took to his Twitter, saying, “In my work life, there’s nothing I love more than collaborating with others to build worlds filled with iconic characters, deep mysteries, and endless adventures.”

Continuing the thread of tweets, he added, “So today, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Netflix Games as Creative Director for a brand-new AAA multiplatform game and (an) original IP. Let’s go!”

He is well-known for working on one of the biggest gaming IP by Microsoft. During his days in Bungie, Staten worked as writer and director for Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 cinematic and was one of the writers for Halo 3 and Halo: Reach.

Apart from Halo, he also worked on Bungie’s iconic IP, Destiny, as a co-creative director. It would certainly be an understatement to say that Netflix just got a huge upgrade in their game studios.

Netflix focusing heavily in gaming sector

Netflix originally dived into the gaming sector back in 2021, starting out with mobile game development. The company has released several popular mobile titles for its users that can be played through cloud services on their app by subscribers.

Following that, the company acquired many game development studios and announced a few of their own. Throughout 2022, the company started focusing more on the gaming aspect and released various popular titles while announce their interest in AAA game titles.

The company has also collaborated with games studios to bring web series based around that games like the widely popular Arcane, based on League of Legends by Riot Games and Cyberpunk Edgerunners bases on Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red.

While further plans are yet to be revealed by the studio, one thing is confirmed, that gamers might soon get even more choices among great games. Netflix have already promised to update their game library regularly.
