Mahadev Book: ED to take Interpol’s assistance to nab Saurabh Chandrakar, Ravi Uppal

Published on:

The Enforcement Directorate has planned to take Interpol’s assistance in order to catch the mastermind of Mahadev Book illegal betting app Saurabh Chandrakar and his partner Ravi Uppal.

The officials are reported to be in the process of drafting letters to the Centre for the purpose which will be sent after finalization. With this, the ED intends to not only bring the culprits back to India but also put a stop to the illegal betting network’s operations as soon as possible.

As per previous reports, the police have uncovered that the app generates revenues well over Rs 300 crore every month from its alleged 40 lakh users. They recently arrested multiple individuals including a police ASI Chandrabhushan Verma for taking bribes worth Rs 65 crore and Satish Chandrakar, a close relative of mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar.

The ED has secured a seven-day judicial custody of the four arrested individuals. Reports suggest that the agency has also found out identities of several others associated with the illegal activity.

Chandrakar is said to be hiding in Dubai and operating the network from there. There were reports recently indicating that he and Uppal are suspected to be in Sri Lanka.

The Chhattisgarh police started their operations against Mahadev Book illegal betting network back in early 2022 but despite several raids and arrests, the network is still very much intact and operational. The police have discovered that the local operatives of the illegal betting network are first trained in Dubai and sent back to India to expand the network.

Meanwhile, reports surfaced earlier this week that to celebrate the app’s success, the top operatives of Mahadev Book are hosting a party in the UAE and have even invited Bollywood celebrities. The revelation was done after ED raided the premises of an event management company in Mumbai’s Malad suburb.

These celebrities are now under the ED radar for receiving the proceeds from the Mahadev Book operators. The amount is suspected to be provided by mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal.
