More than 25 arrested for illegal gambling across Chittoor, Bhopal and Dehradun

Chittoor

On the night of January 12, the police arrested 17 people on suspicion of gambling in a forest close to Moram village in Palamaner mandal in Chittoor district. They also recovered 16 motorcycles, 17 mobile phones, and Rs 3.84 lakh in cash.

In a statement to the media on Friday, January 13, deputy superintendent of police N. Sudhakar Reddy revealed that the accused were from the western mandals of the Chittoor and Annamayya districts. The two main suspects in the case are still at large, as reported by The Hindu.

According to the authorities, the accused would organize gambling in remote areas in an effort to avoid being spotted. Each client seated at the table was charged Rs 1000 by the organizers.

Bhopal

A raid on a Gandhi Nagar apartment in Bhopal on Thursday resulted in the arrests of two bookies for allegedly placing bets on cricket matches. Along with cash, the accused had a laptop, LED TV, five phones, and goods worth about Rs 3 lakh which were seized from them.

Three registers with accounts totaling lakhs of rupees were also discovered and seized. One of the accused was absconding after taking up the apartment for rent and arranging for gambling equipment. A tip-off regarding an online gambling ring being operated out of a rental flat in Maple Tree Colony had been given to the police, who conducted the raid based on it.

The people arrested are identified as Pawan Kumar Chandwani and Prakash Kherajani. The third accused named Sahil is still at large. The police has issued a search and arrest warrant against him as per reports in The Times of India.

Dehradun

Eight bookmakers were arrested for placing bets on a cricket match between India and Sri Lanka over the Telegram app in Dehradun. The gang is reported to have earned Rs 4 crore in a month and also operated six different betting websites.

According to SSP Dalip Singh Kunwar, Rajpur police were informed about local online gambling activities after which a team conducted a raid and arrested the accused.

The eight arrested are identified as Usman Chowdhary, Sohail Khan, Shakib Ali, Tanseer Chowdhary, Danish, Shahid, Iftikhar and Laxman Singh.

A man from Delhi named Rohit is the main bookmaker for this betting gang. Five laptops, 21 mobile phones, a register, an LED TV, 17 bank account details, a passbook, and a debit card were also recovered during the raid, as reported by Amar Ujala.
