The Mangalhat police arrested two individuals who were reportedly engaged in a cricket betting racket on Friday at Dhoolpet, Hyderabad.
According to the police the two persons arrested are Rajesh Singh and Manoj Singh and both of them belong to the Mangalhat area. They were using an online application to accept bets from several people.
A total of Rs 1 lakh in cash and two mobile phones were recovered from them. The official police statement said, “During investigation, they revealed that they are using goalexch.com which is a web application for cricket betting and to collect money from punters.”
In another similar case, a joint operation from Garha police station cops and crime branch officials of the Jabalpur district took place on Saturday, as a result of which two people are now being held and interrogated for charges of online betting.
The police seized Rs 6,840, four mobile phones and a Wi-fi router in the bust. The two people caught are identified as Mukesh (31) and Manish (35).
Garha police station incharge, Rakesh Tiwari, while talking to media said that they learnt that two males were betting online on a cricket match between Pakistan and South Africa. They were operating from a house located near Prem Nagar post office of the city.
Six bookies were taken into custody by the South District Special Team late last night near the Muhana police station, Jaipur. The bookies are well-known business persons from Rajasthan whom the Jaipur Commissionerate police had been looking for a long time.
A few of the agents were detained by the Jawahar Nagar police station four days ago. The six people detained are Pawan Alwani alias Prince, Vijay Sindhi, Ravi Sindhi, Laxman Sindhi, Anil, and Prakash.
A total of 17 cellphones, laptops, tablets, note-counting machines, calculators, and other devices were recovered from them. These criminals have been promoting betting through smartphone apps in Rajasthan for the last few years.
The six caught were also taking bets on the T20 cricket match of the World Cup between Australia and Afghanistan in a flat in Dhanuka Apartment under Muhana police station area.
