PUBG Mobile introduces new point system for tournaments; uncertainity on prohibition in India looms

Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) Mobile is making big changes in its point system for tournaments in 2023. The changes were made to make the game more competitive.

With changes in the point system, the teams competing in the game will be forced to use different strategies. It also allows breaking free from the same loop every team was trying to use to reach Finals.

Earlier, the teams focused on playing safe and winning the game to move up toward the leaderboards; this made the gameplay too slow. With new changes in the point system, teams will have to get into firefights with other teams to accumulate points during the matches.

The new point system released by Tencent for upcoming Chinese regional matches are –

As seen above, players will need to get more eliminations to qualify, as the new point system reduces the point rewards for winning significantly. PUBG have changed the point systems in the past during the early 2019 regional tournaments.

While PUBG Mobile is banned in India, a similar counterpart was released by Krafton called Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). The games were almost similar and after the regional finals in India, the qualified teams played PUBG in the grand finals.

Sadly, BGMI was also banned under Section 69A of the IT Act, 2000 by the government due to security concerns, but the developers at Krafton have assured that the company is working on bringing back the game. Rumors about the game being unbanned on 15 January are also floating around.

The CEO of Krafton India also lauded the government’s move to recognize esports nationally and said the company would do its best to add in to the competitive esports scene this year.
