Fantasy sports category tops TV advertisements during first half of IPL 2023

A recent report from TAM advertising reveals that similar to the previous season of the Indian Premier League, fantasy sports have secured the top spot on TV for the 2023 season of IPL. Fantasy sports advertisement this year during IPL exceeded the previous iteration of IPL by 16 new categories and 70 new brands in 35 matches.

While many of the states have banned fantasy sports apps or have imposed strict restrictions, they still remain the most popular and successful form of entertainment for the Indian gaming audience. There are several variations of fantasy sports like team building or card trading. The share for fantasy gaming in this IPL was estimated to be 18% compared to 15% in the last season.

Previous reports suggest that fantasy sports brings more than half of total revenue of online gaming market and is expected to grow about three times in the next few years, crossing over $7 billion by 2025.

Parent company for popular fantasy sports platform Dream11, Sporta Technologies was revealed to be the top advertiser during the IPL matches. The company released numerous advertisements to promote their platform.

Dream11’s advertisements included many popular celebrities and cricketers, which is already one of the most popular and effective way of promotion according to experts. Fantasy sports have one of the most popular and success area in the online gaming market.

Dream11 also currently sits high on top with 10 million downloads on the Google Play Store and is arguably the most popular fantasy sports platform in the country.

Pan Masala, Soft Drink brands also promote on a high

Along with fantasy sports, the other top advertisements for this season for IPL include Pan Masala, soft drinks, and biscuits, wherein Pan Masala’s share of ad volume increased to 15% as compared to 7% in previous IPL season. Recently, popular former cricketers Virender Sehwag and Sunil Gavaskar were promoting a pan masala brand in their latest advertisement.
