Professional Kabaddi team Dabang Delhi have now partnered with Fun88News, a surrogate website for illegal betting site Fun88. The move comes as an aggressive strategy by Fun88 to advertise its illegal betting platform. Dabang Delhi CEO Durganath Wagle announced the partnership of the brand for the upcoming season of the Pro Kabaddi League.
Similar to other surrogate brands, Fun88 has also added ‘news’ to promote itself as a news blog. However, they simply aim to acquire as many users as possible on their primary business, betting. This is done through luring people and advertising the brand as a leading gaming and entertainment info site.
However, this is not the first time that the brand has taken cunning steps to market itself. The illegal Chinese betting app was previously spotted using banners in metros across multiple cities in India. People often fall in the trap of the app being a legitimate gaming platform, but end up getting duped.
Its most recent promotion was for lottery and ‘Satta Matka’ on their app, claiming to be government authorized. However, it is to be noted that ‘Satta Matka’ is illegal, be it online or offline.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) takes constant efforts to curb these platforms. However, the sites come up with different ideas to promote themselves, surrogate brand being the most popular way.
Not long back, the ministry ordered a ban on 22 illegal betting sites and apps. The list also included names like Mahadev Book, which is considered India’s biggest betting network, having numerous subsidiaries.
Even though Fun88 was included in the list of banned sites and apps, the brand is now back to operating again. However, people can prevent themselves from any financial harm caused by these illegal platforms.
