The four accused, who were sent to a 10-day judicial remand previously in the Mahadev Book illegal betting app scam, have had their custody extended till September 29 now. They were presented in the court of Special Judge Ajay Singh Rajput on Friday, September 15 which is when their judicial remand was ending.

The four individuals arrested are accused of operating and facilitating the illegal betting network and bribing officials to keep the matter under control. The arrested individuals are ASI Chandrabhushan Verma, Satish Chandrakar, Anil Dammani and Sunil Dammani.

Both the defence and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented their arguments before the judge after which the decision to extend the judicial remand was taken. The hearing also saw bail applications from Anil Dammani and Sunil Dammani’s advocate. ED will contest it in court on September 20.

As per reports, ED was able to eke out crucial pieces of information about the case, especially from ASI Chandrabhushan Verma who is accused of taking bribes from the betting operators and distribute it to other police officers. On the basis of the information obtained, ED also questioned the director of Zubesta Hospital, Dalla K and his family members.

The aforementioned four individuals were arrested after the police booked a key operator named Naveen Batra. Recently, the ED also seized Rs 417 crore worth of assets from different cities across the country. The raids were also conducted at eight angadiya centres in Mumbai in connection with the transfer of Rs 112 crore to the event management firm M/s R-1 Events Pvt Ltd which was responsible for mastermind Saurabh Chandrakar’s wedding arrangements.

Meanwhile, the police began its probe last year and have estimated that the total value of transactions of the illegal betting app have crossed Rs 5,000 crore. Saurabh Chandrakar and his partner Ravi Uppal are allegedly managing the operations from Dubai.
